Uninstallation Therapy

"I'm so done"

Uninstalling a game can be very therapeutic.  If it's a single player game it is the last act of the story, you're finally done.  You've put the story to rest, beat all of the enemies, and are moving on to make room in your life for another epic story.

"This game stresses me out"

Wait, the game sucked you say?  Well take out the trash.  Uninstalling a bad game is freeing.  You free up your time, space on your hard drive, and space in your mind to think about games you enjoy.  Uninstalling a game that you don't like can feel like you're sticking it to the devs who made the game.  A final act of disapproval.

I have to admit that I definitely felt a bit of this as I uninstalled Deponia by Daedalic Entertainement.  I had really enjoyed Daedalic's The Whispered World, and had just finished Primordia so maybe my expectations were too high for this adventure game, but I was really disappointed.  The story wasn't very good, and I didn't like any of the characters.  I finally thought "Screw you Rufus, you're staying on Deponia." and uninstalled the game.  I wondered how Daedalic could make such a magical, and compelling world and story as The Whispered World, and then create a game where I just didn't care about what happened to any of the people in it.  Uninstalling was a way for me to express my disappointment in what the devs had done.

"I have so many games but nothing to play"

With all of the free to play games out there, that all have different grinds for progress and rewards, you need to take out the trash once in a while.  You just don't have time to play all of them.  There is no reason to sit, and log in everyday to try and get your daily carrot for a game that feels like work, or is causing you stress.  Games are supposed to be fun, not a chore.  We should be playing games to have fun, not to get a reward.  Uninstalling a free to play game is like breaking a ball and chain off of your ankle that has kept you from doing what you want.  I'm not saying you can't have fun in free to play games, just that if a game is feeling like a chore, don't play it.

If you're in a gaming slump, try uninstalling some games, change your routine.  Break away from the games that are dragging you down.  Gaming is a great hobby that allows for creativity, relaxation, and socializing.  If a game is getting in the way of what you want, ditch it.  Treat yourself to some Uninstallation Therapy and start having fun again.
